napaphotos.com

The purpose in maintaining Napaphotos.com is to provide an affordable, easy to find, easy to use internet presence for the photographers and photo related businesses in the beautiful wine growing region of Northern California. The photographers and associated services listed in this site are working professionals. Some are seasoned pros, and some are relatively new to the business. All the photographers have proven their ability to take good pictures consistently. They all love what they do.

I have lived in the Napa Valley for 45 years, and made my living as a photographer here since 1978. In this year, 2006 I celebrate my 28th year in business, and I am amazed by the rapid growth in technology over the last several years that has enabled the internet to truly blossom.

I remember the stone age of personal computing ( for me, 1983 ) when I first logged onto the Compuserve system on a 300 baud modem, and a Radio Shack 16K Color Computer. It was a marvelous experience even then, and lasted until my first online phone bill came to me. There was no such thing as local access, and I had to dial a Palo Alto phone number to log on. It was tremendously expensive, and I reluctantly backed away until a time when affordable "web surfing" was possible. The internet was inaccessible to the general public then, and devoted exclusively to the information exchange of member universities, government, and military.

In the relatively ancient year of 1992, I bought my first 486, and joined the thousands who had begun to move in with the old Arpanet standbys on the Information Super Highway, and by DOS terminal (no graphics back then) began to see the potential in this wonderful world wide medium. I got "flamed" by angry old timers when I sent my first commercial message across the Delphi system in 1993. It was simply an announcement that Pryts Photo Service was online. It was my web version of the pre-historic human hand painting in a French cave, and said, "I am here"

I registered my domain, www.napaphotos.com, in 1996, and found myself one of millions who had come online. The rest is history, for we are the pathfinders. We communicate our ideas, products, and services on an equal basis with the big boys, to an exponentially growing world wide audience.   These ARE the days, and THIS DOTCOM is still chuggin along.
